Pelosi Tries To Postpone State of the Union for ‘Security’

Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) is attempting to block President Donald J. Trump from delivering the annual State of the Union address in the midst of the partial federal government shutdown.

“Pelosi said the partial shutdown has hamstrung both the U.S. Secret Service and the Department of Homeland Security, potentially harming the security planning that precedes the primetime address,” according to Politico.

Pelosi’s security argument is disingenuous at best. This, from the leader of the party that has been advocated for violence against Trump since his campaign? This reporter isn’t buying it.

Rather, Pelosi is likely attempting to block Trump from having the entire nation as an audience to make a case for the border wall. If the government is still shutdown on the date of the speech, Jan. 29, Americans will be more anxious than ever to get the feds back to work. Allowing Trump an audience to bulldoze the uncooperative Democrats who are holding up the deal under those circumstances could have a devastating impact on the for the political left.

“Sadly, given the security concerns and unless government re-opens this week, I suggest that we work together to determine another suitable date after government has re-opened for this address or for you to consider delivering your State of the Union address in writing to the Congress on January 29th,” Pelosi reportedly wrote in a letter to Trump.

The shutdown remains in a stalemate on day 25, with Trump waiting at the White House for them to accept his terms. He continued to turn up the heat on Twitter Wednesday morning.

“It is becoming more and more obvious that the Radical Democrats are a Party of open borders and crime. They want nothing to do with the major Humanitarian Crisis on our Southern Border,” he said.
