Gov. Mike Huckabee Stuck on Plane, Jokes It Must Be the Russians!
Two-time Republican presidential candidate and former Arkansas governor Mike Huckabee said he has been “quarantined” on a plane Thursday morning at Nashville International Airport.
Huckabee tweeted from the plane saying his red eye American Airlines flight from Los Angeles had been grounded for over 40 minutes and had been told “someone on board is sick.”
In his first tweet concerning the stopped flight Huckabee kidded that while he waited to be able to use the restroom, it must have been the Russians who had stopped the plane from taking off, “5 hr red eye flight on @AmericanAir Nashville from LA. On ground for 40 min and now told someone on board is sick & we are being towed to other gate and quarantined until all checked out. Can’t get up to go to bathroom or get off plane. It’s the Russians! I just know it!”

An hour later, Huckabee tweeted a photo from the tarmac and joked that he hoped the flight hadn’t been haulted due to someone bringing a straw from California, “1 hr after landing got to far away gate where @AmericanAir will hopefully get us off this plane! Medical personal at gate. Hope it’s not because I got that straw in CA!”

A spokesperson for American Airlines, Leslie Mayo, said that flight 1289 had landed just before 5 a.m. and was moved to a “remote area of the airport” while paramedics were able to evaluate the sick passenger.
Nashville International Airport spokesperson Shannon Sumrall confirmed passengers had been released from the plane just before 7 a.m.
In a statement from Sumrall she said the passenger in question had been “medically cleared by a physician prior to the flight,” but that the passenger did not have the proper paperwork. The passenger “was talking about the recent illness and other passengers on board become worried of exposure,” Sumrall said. The flight crew immediately notified the airport, and medical personnel were called in to evaluate.
