Martha McSally Neck-Deep in McConnell Swamp Money, Kelli Ward Standing with Trump
The #NeverTrump GOP establishment is pouring money and resources into duping Arizona voters into backing a non-Trump supporting “Republican” in a crucial U.S. Senate race.
“Allies of Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell dove into the middle of a major Senate race Thursday, airing ads to help remake Rep. Martha McSally (R-Ariz.) as a border hawk ahead of her August primary with two prominent immigration hard-liners,” wrote Politico in June.
McSally is anything but a “border hawk.” She only recently dropped her support for granting legal status to law-breaking DACA recipients in an attempt to curry favor with America First supporters of President Donald J. Trump. Further, she has been completely noncommittal on building a border wall, Trump’s wildly popular policy proposal which cascaded him into the White House.
“McSally changed her stance on immigration reform and on her views of President Trump. As a Congresswoman, she voted for amnesty on several occasions, refusing to support Trump’s proposed border wall. She also opposed the president’s “America First” immigration proposals,” said the Daily Minder, a local Arizona paper.

On the open borders front, McSally is a favorite of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, known for their amnesty support. She won the organization’s “Spirit of Enterprise” award, which she bragged about on her official House webpage.
Just this year, the Chamber demanded amnesty for one million illegal immigrants, lobbying Congress to legalize DACA immigrants. The organization claimed that deporting DACA recipients would be “devastating to our economy.” Why employ Americans when you can employ illegals on the cheap?
With all this in mind, it makes sense that the McConnell and his establishment acolytes would back McSally. They are trying to get Trump to do the same, but he is rightfully wary.
“During a recent phone call, National Republican Senatorial Committee Chairman Cory Gardner (R-Colo.) asked the president to endorse GOP Rep. Martha McSally, widely viewed as the establishment favorite in the Aug. 28 primary, according to two senior Republicans familiar with the conversation,” said Politico.
Trump has previously expressed his support for former Sate Sen. Kelli Ward’s candidacy on Twitter.
“Great to see that Dr. Kelli Ward is running against Flake Jeff Flake, who is WEAK on borders, crime and a non-factor in Senate. He’s toxic!” Trump wrote.

Sen. Jeff Flake (R-Ariz.) as since decided to retire after his current term is up.
McConnell is also working with has-been GOP establishment sycophant Karl Rove and a Virginia-based non-profit called One Nation, which has spent $500,000 on pro-McSally ads.
“Reps. Martha McSally and David Schweikert are getting a boost from a group with ties to Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell and Karl Rove, powerful Republican allies who have seen their influence tested in the Trump era,” according to Arizona Central.
Furthering the case against McSally is her bevy of #NeverTrump donors, many of whom have donated to her DefendArizona PAC. The PAC has $5 million reserved for pro-McSally television ads, paid for by the following weak establishment Republicans, according to FEC records:
- Warren Stephens, an Arkansas billionaire who, along with his brother Steve, spent $3.5 million to stop Trump from becoming President. Warren has donated $100,000 to DefendArizona.
- Randy Kendrick, part owner of the Arizona Diamondbacks, who is “a longtime donor to the fundraising network associated with David and Charles Koch” according to Ballotpedia. The billionaire Koch’s are known for supporting open borders, and are currently in a war of words with Trump. Kendrick has donated $100,000 to McSally’s PAC.
- ‘William Oberndorf, a California “Republican” who donated to President Barack H. Obama in 2012 and has donated to Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-CA), donated $150,000 to DefendArizona.
It is clear that Republican old-guard wants McSally to replace Flake. The question is whether she is the candidate whom voters want. Arizonans who overwhelmingly supported Trump ought to be wary of McSally’s #NeverTrump agenda and her ties to the McConnell-run D.C. swamp.
Meanwhile, Ward has consistently supported the President and his agenda, the same one supported by America First voters. Ward is clear: she wants to Make America Great Again:
