New Kevin Spacey Movie Bombs At Theaters Bringing in $126 on Opening Day
Disgraced actor Kevin Spacey’s new movie “Billionaires Boys Club” raked in a miserable $126 at box offices it’s opening day Friday, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Marking a career box-office low for one time star Spacey, the indie film only brought in $126 on Friday and $162 on Saturday for a two-day total of just $287 after its release on premium VOD last month. At this rate, it may not even hit $425 for the entire weekend.
The Hollywood Reporter breaks it down: “Put another way, that’s a per location average of roughly $53 for the weekend. If going by the average ticket price to date of $9.27, that means fewer than six people showed up in each cinema.”

Stars of the major flop include: Targon Egerton, Ansel Egerton, Emma Roberts, Billie Lourd, Judd Nelson, Cary Elwes, Jeremy Irvine, and Emma Roberts. The movie is loosely based on the real-life club of the same name which made headlines in California in the 1980s. Spacey plays Beverly Hills high-roller Ron Levin.
When Spacey was accused in the fall of 2017 of sexual assault by several men in both England as well as in the US. MRC and Netflix fired him from House of Cards shortly after the allegations and Ridley Scott quickly replaced Space in All the Money in the World.
When distributor Vertical Entertainment agreed to release Billionaires Boy Club on VOD and in theaters last summer, they made a statement saying is was “neither an easy nor insensitive decision.”
“We hope these distressing allegations pertaining to one person’s behavior — that were not publicly known when the film was made almost two-and-a-half years ago and from someone who has a small, supporting role in Billionaire Boys Club — does not tarnish the release of the film,” Vertical said. “In the end, we hope audiences make up their own minds as to the reprehensible allegations of one person’s past, but not at the expense of the entire cast and crew present on this film.”
The failed film is not showing in New York or Los Angeles but instead in the Bay Area, Detroit, Sarasota, Florida, Phoenix, Minneapolis/St. Paul, New Orleans, Miami and the Hartford/New Haven area.
On Friday, the film grossed $45 at the AMC Sundial in Sarasota with only $19 generated at the Metro Movies 12 in Middletown, Connecticut. Just $9 was collected at the AMC Deer Valley 16 in Antioch, California. That means that only one person showed up to see the film at the Deer Valley cinema and one person at the Lakeville 21 in the Minneapolis/St. Paul area, where the film grossed $10 per cinema.
The audience score on Rotten Tomatoes shows only 40% liking it out of 128 users polled. With only 8 critics reviewing the film, the reviews were lack luster and included comments like, “Billionaire Boys Club would fail even if Kevin Spacey’s career hadn’t crashed,” and “Even this star studded cast couldn’t fool audiences into investing their money for this one.”
It’s safe to say, Spacey has seen much better days at the box office.
