Previously Deported Sex Offender from Africa Busted Trying to Enter Daycare Center
A wanted sex offender and illegal immigrant from Africa has been arrested by police and U.S. Border Patrol agents in Detroit, according to The Detroit Press.
The man from Eritrea, a country in northeast Africa on the Red Sea, has been identified as 53-year-old Yemaneh Gebremedhin.
The man attempted to break into a the child care facility at a Detroit church. Detroit Police called Border Patrol officials on Tuesday to try and help identify the man. Facility workers had denied the man entrance due to his criminal sexual background, and instead called local police, Border Patrol agents said.
After Border Patrol agents questioned the man and later identified him as Gebremedhin, he was taken into the agency’s Detroit station to be processed.

Gebremedhin was convicted in 2015 of gross sexual imposition and was wanted in Cuyahoga County, Ohio, for failing to register as a sex offender.
Investigators also learned that he is in the United States illegally and had been ordered to leave the country in June of 2016, according to officials connected to the case.
Gebremedhin was processed and later extradited to the Cuyahoga County Sheriff’s office in Ohio. Immigration and Custom Enforcement’s Enforcement and Removal Operations will take custody of Gebremedhin once criminal proceedings are complete in Cuyahoga County.
“This is another great example of how the U.S. Border Patrol and the Detroit Police Department collaborated to remove a predator like this from the streets of Detroit,” said Chief Patrol Agent Douglas Harrison. “These Agents and Officers should be commended for their due diligence to remove this threat from the community.”
