Secret Service Arrest Person Caught Climbing Over White House Security Barrier

An unidentified person was taken into custody around 8:10 p.m. Sunday evening after trying to climb over the security barrier outside the White House, according to federal officials.

The Secret Service has confirmed that one person has been arrested for trying to breach the grounds. The incident occurred Sunday near Street Northwest and Alexander Hamilton Place.

Officials have given no further details on a possible motive for the attempted break-in and further investigation is underway.

In late June, a “well-known” woman tried to scale the White House fence, ultimately failing and deciding to sit on the fence instead. The woman arrested has a history of no less than five attempts to breach White House security and this time claimed she was doing so in “political protest,” according to court filings.

Amina Washington-Bey has made “multiple prior attempts to unlawfully enter the White House grounds,” according to court records. In the records, it also states that the Secret Service said Washington-Bey has a history of failing to abide by stay-away orders from White House grounds and surrounding areas, and was currently serving a three-year term of release from a prior conviction when she was arrested.

Less than two months ago, a 20-year-old man by the name of Steven Carmona of Wheaton, Maryland, assaulted a Secret Service officer, according to federal court records.

The man was overheard screaming “Where is the president? Where is the president?” The Families Belong Together rally drew over 30,000 protesters who want to end the zero-tolerance immigration policies at the border.

The man punched one of the officers in the jaw and left eye after moving the security barrier between protesters and Secret Service officers, according to the affidavit. It’s unknown if he had any connection to the immigration rally itself. The man was secured in leg shackles in addition to handcuffs because he was kicking the officers, and one Secret Service officer was noted to have a possible concussion that incurred when Carmona kneed him in the head.

“Carmona was placed under arrest for assaulting a federal law enforcement officer. While being placed under arrest, Carmona asked ‘Where is the President?’ He also stated to officers ‘Just end it, just kill me,’” the affidavit shows.
