Kentucky Governor Matt Bevin Encourages Students To Bring Their Bibles To School on Thursday, October 4th
The Governor of Kentucky is encouraging students to bring their Bibles to school on Thursday, October 4th as part of the “Bring Your Bible To School Day” event where thousands of students across the country will be participating.
“The Bible is an amazing document,” the Governor of Kentucky, Matt Bevin, said in a video promoting the day. “It has an incredible amount of history, knowledge, wisdom, guidance – things that our founders understood and took to heart as they set this entire nation in motion.”

“Bring Your Bible To School Day” is an event that has been held for the last 4 years and one that is co-sponsored by the conservative Christian organization Focus on the Family, which has worked diligently since the 1970s to “promote biblical truths worldwide” and to advocate for policies that reflect that goal. The event is also co-sponsored by the Alliance Defending Freedom, a cohort of attorneys who specialize in First Amendment cases involving Christianity.
According to the event’s website, “Bring Your Bible to School Day” is meant as a demonstration for religious freedom as well as to “empower you as a student to express your belief in the truth of God’s Word — and to do so in a respectful way that demonstrates the love of Christ.” Bevin said about 500,000 students across the country participated in the event last year.
As a lifelong conservative Christian, Bevin said in 2016 that he believed “the greatness of America” was innately linked to the “Judeo-Christian principles” of its early leaders, and has openly used his faith as a guide in legislative decisions.
Some of the faith-based decisions made by Bevin include publicly battling Planned Parenthood of Indiana and Kentucky, declaring two consecutive Years of the Bible in Kentucky and authorizing the state’s public educators to teach elective biblical literacy courses that focus on the impact the Bible has made on world history and culture.
“This is your constitutional right not just on Oct. 4 but every day,” Bevin told students in his YouTube video.
