Melania continues Be Best Campaign for Children in Malawi, Kenya, Egypt
The First Lady proceeded with her African journey with visits from Ghana to Malawi, Kenya, and now Egypt. At each stop the First Lady is promoting child education and welfare through her Be Best Campaign.
In Malawi, Melania was greeted by First Lady of Malawi, Gertrude Mutharika at Lilongwe International Airport. She visited Chipala Primary School and was greeted by the Minister of Education Bright Msaka and Head Teacher Maureen Masi.
Some of the students greeted with Melania with a song: "We are happy today to see you. Welcome, welcome, welcome, welcome, welcome all of you. We are happy today. We are happy to see you."
The First Lady sat in on an English and Chichewa language class and interacted with school children on the playground where many were playing with soccer balls the Be Best program had donated.
In Kenya, Melania was met by Kenya's First Lady Margaret Kenyatta at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport in Nairobi. She visited with baby elephants at the Elephant Sanctuary in the Nairobi National Park. She also met with school children and read a story, "The Lion and the Mouse," to the children.
Melania also visited The Nest Orphanage in Nairobi for children who have been abandoned or whose parents are incarcerated. She held hands with the children as they sang, sashaying and dancing with them.
In Egypt. Melania was met by her Egyptian counterpart Entissar Amer al-Sissi. So far, The First Lady has visited the historical Giza pyramids along with Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah al-Sissi and his wife. No doubt the copperation between the U.S. Agency for International Development and the Egyptian government to prevent deterioration of the Giza treasures was discussed.
Speaking briefly to reporters, the First Lady said: "That's very important what I do, what we're doing with U.S. aid and what I do with my initiatives and I wish people would focus on what I do, not what I wear."
Obviously monitoring the First Lady's trip, US President Donald Trump had tweeted: "Our country's great First Lady, Melania, is doing really well in Africa. The people love her, and she loves them! It is a beautiful thing to see."
