Jolie 2020? Actress Hints at Potential Presidential Run
Actress and United Nations Special Envoy Angelina Jolie hinted at a potential presidential run Friday on BBC’s “Today” radio program.
“If you asked me 20 years ago, I would’ve laughed,” Jolie said when asked if she would consider running for president.
“I always say I’ll go where I’m needed, I don’t know if I’m fit for politics, but then I’ve also joked that I don’t know if I have a skeleton left in my closet. I’m pretty open and out there,” she continued.
Referencing her work with the UN, she seemed content.

“I honestly will do whatever I think can really make change, and right now I am able to work with a UN agency that is the most in the field of all the UN agencies, to do a lot of work directly with the people in need,” she said.
But she pumped up her credentials a bit toward the end of the segment, and then left the answer to the original question open, saying she would “stay quiet for now.”
“I’m also able to work with governments and I’m also able to work with militaries, and so I sit in a very interesting place of being able to get a lot done,” she said.
Jolie, who is not a huge fan of President Donald J. Trump and wrote an op-ed in The New York Times criticizing his refugee policy, would likely run as a Democrat.
That field is becoming quite crowded, quite quickly. Early polling frontrunners are failed U.S. Senate candidate Robert Francis “Beto” O’Rourke, former Vice President Joe Biden and Senator Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.).
Sens. Kamala Harris (D-Calif.), Cory Booker (D-N.J.) and Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) are considering runs, along with former Obama administration housing czar Julian Castro and Rep. Eric Swalwell (D-Calif.).
