SAD: Liz Warren’s Beerfest Is Our Worst Political Moment of 2018
In an Instagram live-stream mimicking incoming Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio Cortez, a New York Democratic Socialist, Sen. Elizabeth Warren, who declared her candidacy for president earlier in the day, opened a beer on camera and fielded questions from supporters on Monday evening, New Years’ Eve.
Warren announced the formation of a presidential exploratory committee, which allows candidates for the office to raise money and hire staff, in a video posted to YouTube and Twitter on Monday morning.
Every person in America should be able to work hard, play by the same set of rules, & take care of themselves & the people they love. That’s what I’m fighting for, & that’s why I’m launching an exploratory committee for president. I need you with me: https://t.co/BNl2I1m8OX pic.twitter.com/uXXtp94EvY

She held a press conference outside of her $4mm Massachusetts home Monday afternoon, where she told a crowd of reporters and cameramen that she was filing documentation to form an exploratory committee for president, becoming the first Democratic member in the U.S. Congress to formally enter the 2020 race.
“I’m here in my kitchen, uh, and um, I thought maybe we’d just take some questions and I’d see what I can do,” Warren, 69, looked into a camera in her kitchen and told supporters.
“It’s been kind of an amazing day,” she continued. “So, today, I, um, got up early this morning, and, uh, talked to a bunch of folks on the phone, and then went outside and talked to the press — and this is our house, and has been for a long time, and there are all these reporters, and trucks, and everybody outside the house.”
“And I went out and talked to the press, and Bailey went out — it was his first press conference — and my husband Bruce [Mann] was with me,” she added, referencing her dog, Bailey, and her husband, Bruce.
“Hold on a second — I’m gonna get me a beer,” Warren added moments later.

“Um, want a beer?” Warren asked her husband, Bruce Mann.
“No, I’ll pass on a beer for now. Enjoy your beer,” he replied.
Warren announced later into the live-stream that she’s so-far received campaign contributions from Americans across all 50 states.
She then elaborated on her New Year’s Eve plans: “Here it is — getting ready for New Year’s Eve. It’s easy for Bruce and I to make plans, because we pretty much do the same things every year. Um, for New Year’s Eve we watch Casablanca, we get some good food … and, um, we sit there upstairs and we watch Casablanca.” She added that the movie “fills me with hope.”
