Furloughed Government Workers Get Hired As Substitute Teachers
Many furloughed federal workers are taking advantage of the opportunity to learn new skills and chase new horizons during their temporary unemployment due to the government shutdown over border Wall funding.
Many furloughed employees are being licensed and hired to fill the substitute teacher shortage in the Fairfax County public schools in Virginia, giving a second chance to people whose day jobs were deemed too non-essential to continue paying for during the government shutdown. The school system even sped up the licensing process to get the displaced bureaucrats into the classroom quickly.
