Kamala Backs Off Medicare-for-All After Swift Backlash From Democrats
Sen. Kamala Harris (D-Calif.) has already backed away from her formerly gung-ho position on Medicare-for-All after facing backlash from the billionaire class in her own party.
“We need to have Medicare-for-all,” Harris said in a Monday town hall “Who of us has not had that situation, where you’ve got to wait for approval and the doctor says well, ‘I don’t know if your insurance company is going to cover this.’ Let’s eliminate all of that. Let’s move on.”
But big-name capitalist billionaires associated with the Democratic party, including former New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg and former Starbucks CEO Howard Schultz, are not thrilled with the left’s push towards all out collectivism. This will be a problem that Democrats must face – the facade that they are the party of the little guy while so many who bankroll them are wealthy businesspeople who have personally benefitted from the economic system the party now wants to destroy.
Realizing this, people in Harris’ camp backed off her town hall comments.

“As the furor grew, a Harris adviser on Tuesday signaled that the candidate would also be open to the more moderate health reform plans, which would preserve the industry, being floated by other congressional Democrats,” according to CNN. “It represents a compromise position that risks angering ‘Medicare-for-all’ proponents, who view eliminating private health insurance as key to enacting their comprehensive reform.”
“Both the adviser and Harris national press secretary Ian Sams said her willingness to consider alternate routes to a single payer system should not cast doubt on her commitment to the policy,” the report continued.
Democratic party billionaires are unlikely to budge on many Democratic party ideas that would move money from their bank accounts into the hands of the federal government. This will be a major force for the party to reckon with as it moves further left to pander to its own extremists.
