2020 WAR CHESTS: Bernie CRUSHES Fundraising Hauls of His Fellow Leftists

Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders raised nearly $6 million in the first 24 hours of his campaign, crushing all of his opponents in the fundraising game so far.

Sanders announced his intention to run for president in 2020 as a Democrat yesterday, and in the following 24 hours he raised “$5,925,771 from 223,047 individual contributors,” an obscenely large amount of money that makes his opponents’ fundraising seem pitiful in comparison.

Among candidates who have either made information publicly available early or declared their candidacy during the last reporting cycle, Sanders has a clear and massive lead.

Coming in second place is Sen. Kamala Harris, who raised $1.5 million in the first 24 hours of her campaign. In third place is Sen. Amy Klobuchar, who said she raised $1 million in the first 48 hours of her campaign.

Candidates scoring below Harris and Klobuchar in the fundraising challenge did not raise even $1 million in their first 24 hours, and some have not raised such a comparatively paltry sum since starting their campaigns.

Sen. Elizabeth Warren, for example, raised a mere $299,000 in the first 24 hours of her campaign, and while Julian Castro did not announce a 24 hour fundraising number, he raised only $220,000 in the first two weeks of his campaign.

Surprisingly, Venture For America founder Andrew Yang, who promises to provide Americans with a “universal basic income” should he be elected, also beat the better recognized Warren and Castro, raising over $350,000 since the start of his campaign.

Meanwhile, Senators Kirsten Gillibrand and Cory Booker have not released 24 hour totals or fundraising information, but are reportedly courting top Democrat donors, including those on Wall Street, to help fund their campaigns.

While Sanders’ fundraising abilities are impressive and leave his campaign with an overflowing war chest, it is worth noting that President Donald J. Trump has over $16 million tucked away to face the Democrat nominee in 2020.
