50 ‘Heartbeats’ Are Now Co-Sponsors of ‘Heartbeat’ Law
AUSTIN, TEXAS — On Thursday, Feb. 21, the “Heartbeat” bill continues gaining momentum with a full 50 Texas lawmakers now listed as co-sponsors, according to reports.
We reached out to the bill’s author, State Rep. Briscoe Cain (recently rated the “most conservative” member of the entire Texas House).
“There’s been a lot of debate lately about when a human being is a human being, and whether a the heartbeat stoped by the abortionist was that of a child’s, or whether it is more or less moral to have an abortion after 20 weeks gestation because the unborn child can or cannot feel pain,” Cain told Big League Politics.
In his view, such discussions are an exercise in fulility. “This is rationalizing the indefensible, and playing gymnastics with the unconscionable,” Cain stated. “If it’s not a human being, then no defense is necessary. If it is a human being, then no defense is possible,” he concluded.

Cain’s straightforward definition of terms stands in stark contrast to the usual hedging and obfuscation preferred by most politicians.
Very often, political figures on the right and the left sanitize, sterilize and ultimately obscure the essence of what abortion really is:
the willful destruction of a human life for mostly non-medical reasons.
Don’t believe us, believe Faye Wattleton (the longest serving president of Planned Parenthood) who said in Ms. Magazine,
“Yes, it [abortion] kills a fetus. I think we have deluded ourselves into believing that people don’t know that abortion is killing.”
But, “what about in cases involving the life or health of the mother?” many ask. It turns out, it’s never necessary to perform an abortion for the life or health of the mother — total myth. Don’t believe me? Believe Dr. Alan Guttmacher, the founder and arguably most influential president of, Planned Parenthood, who said:
“Today it is possible for almost any patient to be brought through pregnancy alive … abortion would be unlikely to prolong, much less save, life.”
“There’s a lot of momentum and it’s really hard to argue with this. Public opinion is on our side,” Rep. Cain told Austin’s KXAN Tuesday, Feb. 20. “The heartbeat is kind of this universal sign of life,” he continued.
“Texas is one of eleven state legislatures working to stop a doctor from performing an abortion if a heartbeat is detected. The only exception is if the doctor believes there’s a medical emergency,” NBC affiliate KXAN reported.
Not evewryone agrees that heartbeats matter.
“HB 1500 would ban abortion care before many Texans even know they are pregnant. Briscoe Cain’s six-week abortion ban is nothing but a blatant and dangerous attempt to outright ban all abortion care in Texas. If enacted, it would be the most extreme abortion ban in the nation,” said NARAL Pro-Choice Texas Executive Director Aimee Arrambide in a statement.
“Politicians should be working to advance access to the full range of reproductive healthcare, including abortion care – not making it more difficult. Shame on Briscoe Cain and all anti-abortion legislators who have signed on in support of this dangerous bill, and for putting their ideological beliefs over public health.
