Bill Weld: ‘Never Trump’ Sleeper Cell Candidate with a Serious Koch Problem
When former Massachusetts governor William Weld recently announced that he will be running as a Republican Party presidential primary challenger against Donald Trump in 2020, most conservatives who heard the news probably said: “Who?”
Weld isn’t exactly a relevant figure in contemporary American politics. After ending his tenure as Massachusetts governor in 1997, Weld cashed out with a lucrative Wall Street job while serving as the inspiration for Mitt Romney’s lackluster governorship from 2003-2007.
He re-emerged as a Libertarian Vice Presidential candidate under dope-brained Gary Johnson in 2016, where he promoted Hillary Clinton in the latter days of that farce-plagued abomination of a candidacy.
“I’ve known her for 40 years. I’ve worked with her. I know her well professionally, I know her well personally. I know her to be a person of high moral character, a reliable person and an honest person,” Weld said to Rachel Maddow of MSNBC in the final days before the 2016 election.

In addition, Weld is on the record supporting the Iraq War, gay marriage, gun control, affirmative action, Roe vs. Wade, the Patriot Act, and carbon taxes. He even publicly endorsed Barack Obama for President in 2008. How could such a man believe that he has a chance in Hades of upending Trump with beliefs that are so far removed from the modern conservative consensus?
Weld’s ace in the hole may be his long-standing relationship with the Koch Brothers, whose cosmopolitan globalist liberaltarian beliefs are similar to Weld’s.
The ties between Weld and the Koch’s can be deciphered through the tentacles of their massive and ubiquitous network. The regular coverage over at Reason Magazine, a Koch rag through-and-through since its inception, has escalated from frequent to almost daily since Weld announced his Presidential candidacy. Weld was featured as the keynote speaker of the Koch-funded Students for Liberty Northeast Regional Conference in 2017. Weld has been in bed with the Koch’s for so long that even radical libertarian Murray Rothbard commented on him as an example of a “Big Government Libertarian” who he reviled before his death in 1995.
“Only his pro-gay agenda accounts for the ardor… toward Massachusetts Governor Weld, whom they embrace as, in the current slogan, ‘fiscally conservative but socially tolerant.’ (The ‘fiscally conservative’ refers to a one-time budget cut followed, the next time around, by a compensatory budget increase.) ’Socially tolerant,’ in the current atmosphere, means a devotion to the entire Left cultural agenda, from gay rights to compulsory multicultural propaganda and condomization in the public schools,” Rothbard wrote of Weld.
The Kochs stabbed the Republican Party in the back during the 2018 election cycle, choosing to support far-left Democrats instead who supported open borders. According to PBS, they spent up to $400 million in the mid-term election cycle but much of that money went to Democrats wishing to flood the USA with third-world migrants whose cheap labor oligarchs like the Kochs can exploit for greater profit margins.
Their lack of support of the Republican ticket undoubtedly contributed to the losses in 2018 when the GOP needed all hands on deck to fend off leftist extremism. Through their pro-illegal immigration LIBRE Initiative, the Koch network sent mailers to up to 100,000 homes in favor of far-left legislators such as Reps. Ben Ray Luján and Michelle Lujan Grisham of New Mexico, Democratic Reps. Raul Ruiz and Pete Aguilar of California, and Democratic Sen. Chris Coons of Delaware.
“Thank you Sen. Coons for supporting a permanent solution for Dreamers,” one Koch-funded mailer read. “More than 90% of Americans want protection for the Dreamers.”
They even tried to knock off Sen. Kevin Cramer (R-ND) for supporting immigration controls and opposing globalist trade deals, but ultimately failed in their efforts to buoy the Democratic incumbent. They are likely to fail if they throw money at Weld, who is a relic of the politics of yesteryear that Trump was elected to finish off. The President is well-aware of their plotting against his ‘America First’ agenda.
The globalist Koch Brothers, who have become a total joke in real Republican circles, are against Strong Borders and Powerful Trade. I never sought their support because I don’t need their money or bad ideas. They love my Tax & Regulation Cuts, Judicial picks & more. I made…..

….them richer. Their network is highly overrated, I have beaten them at every turn. They want to protect their companies outside the U.S. from being taxed, I’m for America First & the American Worker – a puppet for no one. Two nice guys with bad ideas. Make America Great Again!

The Koch Bros will likely need to find a better horse than Weld if they want to derail the Trump train and push America back to the globalist status quo in 2020 and beyond.
