FACT CHECK: Don Lemon Falsely Claims that Trump Will ‘Eat Jussie Smollett’s Lunch’

Wednesday on “CNN Tonight,” host and left wing activist Don Lemon falsely claimed that President Donald J. Trump would “eat Jussie Smollett’s lunch” after Smollett was exposed for orchestrating a hate crime against himself, and charged by the police.

“Sean Hannity’s gonna eat Jussie Smollett’s lunch every single second,” Lemon said. “Tucker Carlson’s gonna eat Jussie Smollett’s lunch every single second. The President of the United States is gonna eat his lunch.”

Lemon’s freakout was not only bizarre, but entirely untrue. We rate this claim as false.

Thursday, Trump is slated for lunch with the Acting Secretary of the Interior David Bernhardt. He will demonstrably not be eating lunch with Smollett, and thus will be presented the opportunity to eat Smollett’s lunch.

Here is Trump’s public schedule:

Likewise, Smollett is pre-occupied Thursday.

He was booked by the Chicago Police Department on a felony count of disorderly conduct for filing a false report.

At the time of publication, it is unclear whether he has been released from police custody on bond. In any case, Smollett would have to fly from Chicago to Washington, D.C. in order to join Trump and Bernhardt for lunch. The duration of that flight is about two hours.

Trump’s lunch is set for 12:15 p.m. ET. Even if Smollett has already been released, he will not make it to Washington, D.C. in time to have lunch with the President.
