National Democrats Are Recruiting A Loser From Texas, And It’s Not Beto

The Democrats are recycling losing candidates from races in Texas and deploying them elsewhere on the national stage, according to a report by The Huffington Post.

U.S. Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer from New York is recruiting M.J. Hegar, the Democrat who ultimately lost a congressional race in 2018 to Texas Republican Rep. John Carter in Georgetown, Texas.

Schumer wants Hegar to run against Sen. John Cornyn (R-TX), who is up for reelection in 2020.

Hegar previously told HuffPost that a lot of things would have to fall into place for her to run for Senate, but it’s one of the options she’s exploring; another is challenging Carter again.

“Whatever race I’m eyeing, I need to feel strongly like I would serve that community, whether it’s District 31 or Texas … the best,” she said at the time.

It appears the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC) is also on-board with Hegar’s indecision — but then, the DCCC is predisposed to veterans and is known in the field of Democratic contenders, to chase “veteran” candidates for open seats.

“Democrats have executed a strategy of recruiting and empowering veterans with deep records of service, and it’s clear that Republicans have no clue how to run against these candidates and their credentials,” said DCCC Spokesman Tyler Law. Hegar is a veteran of the U.S. Air Force and served in Afghanistan.

National Journal reporter Ally Mutnick tweeted Wednesday that DCCC Chair Cheri Bustos “is personally recruiting” Hegar to run against Carter again in Texas’ 31st Congressional District.

Hegar is not giving any clear indication how she will respond to Schumer’s entreating, and is likely to run again, against Carter in the next election cycle.
