NBC’s Mitchell Laments ‘Iconic’ Warren Dropping Out of 2020 Race #Political

By the end of her NBC Nightly News report on Thursday, it was clear that chief foreign affairs correspondent Andrea Mitchell was let down by Senator Elizabeth Warren dropping out the Democratic race for president. It was loaded with gushy declarations about how iconic the Senator was with no mention of her lies about Native American heritage.

“A field that began with six women, Warren is the last leading woman to bow out,” Mitchell declared, disregarding the campaign of Hawaii Congresswoman Tulsi Gabbard (D). Of course, that was a tee up to interject speculation that sexism was what caused her to lose. “Her departure, leaving the race to two white men in their 70s, did gender play a role?”

Mitchell’s question was entirely rhetorical because she had a clip for that:

WARREN: That's the trap question for every woman. If you say, “yeah, there was sexism in this race,” everyone says, “whiner.” And if you say, “no, there was no sexism,” about a bazillion women think, “what planet do you live on?”

That was followed up with Mitchell touting how “the iconic progressive was never short on ideas.” Though, she did note that Warren couldn’t adequately answer the question about how she would pay for Medicare for all plan.

But Mitchell made sure to include a highlight reel of Warren taking on some of the male candidates in the race:

MITCHELL: A fierce debater, Warren took down Mike Bloomberg.

WARREN: A billionaire who calls women fat broads and horse-faced lesbians. And no, I'm not talking Donald Trump. I'm talking about Mayor Bloomberg.

MITCHELL: And famously, was caught on an open mic confronting Bernie Sanders.

WARREN: I think you called me a liar on national TV.

MITCHELL: While slamming Joe Biden just this week.

WARREN: Nominating someone who wants to restore the world before Donald Trump [transition] is a big risk for our party and for our country.

Of course, the Warren-fan girl refused to mention the snafu with the Senator’s false claims of Native American heritage, which were only exacerbated by her DNA test publicity stunt shortly before announcing her candidacy.

LESTER HOLT: All right. Let's get to that big development today in the race for president. Elizabeth Warren's announcement today that she’s dropping out. And then the question, who will she endorse? Here's Andrea Mitchell.

[Cuts to video]

ANDREA MITCHELL: Senator Elizabeth Warren after losing her home state of Massachusetts on Super Tuesday, ending her campaign.

SEN. ELIZABETH WARREN (D-MA): But I guarantee, I will stay in the fight.

MITCHELL: A field that began with six women, Warren is the last leading woman to bow out.

WARREN: One of the hardest parts of this is all those pinkie promises and all those little girls who are going to have to wait four more years.

MITCHELL: Her departure, leaving the race to two white men in their 70s, did gender play a role?

WARREN: That's the trap question for every woman. If you say, “yeah, there was sexism in this race,” everyone says, “whiner.” And if you say, “no, there was no sexism,” about a bazillion women think, “what planet do you live on?”

MITCHELL: Briefly leading in the polls last fall, Warren says she needs time to think before endorsing anyone. A former law professor, the iconic progressive was never short on ideas.

WARREN: And I got a plan for that.

MITCHELL: But she faltered when challenged to explain how she would pay for Medicare for all. A fierce debater, Warren took down Mike Bloomberg.

[Cuts back to live]

MITCHELL: Biden and Sanders both thanked Warren, today, for what she brought to the race, with both actively seeking her endorsement. Even if she does not endorse Sanders, her exit is likely to give him an immediate boost, since he's the last progressive candidate in the race. Lester?

HOLT: Andrea Mitchell in Washington, thanks.
