FRANTIC: CBS Demands Dems ‘Fight Back,’ Force GOP to ‘Look Into Their Souls’ #Political
The hosts of CBS This Morning on Monday adopted a frantic tone, demanding to know just how Democrats would stop Donald Trump from putting a conservative woman on the Supreme Court. Talking to Senator Amy Klobuchar, co-host Anthony Mason pressed, “What are Democrats prepared to do to fight back?... What are you going to do?” They also failed to grill the politician on Democratic hypocrisy regarding a court vacancy.
Mason hopefully wondered, “As you said, Senator Susan Collins and Lisa Murkowski, Republicans, are both opposed to filling the seat this close to the election. Do you think there will be other Republican votes?”
As for the GOP Klobuchar lectured, “They can look in their own souls and their integrity and make a decision.” Co-host Gayle King picked up this talking point, parroting, “The numbers are against you. So are Democrats putting pressure on Republicans to look in their soul, as you say, to do in your opinion the right thing?”
King, a Democratic donor who vacationed with the Obamas, plotted strategy: “Are you pressuring people, you and your colleagues behind the scenes? If so, who?
In the 7 AM hour, the co-hosts grilled Kayleigh McEnany after the White House Press Secretary brought up Democratic hypocrisy on filling a seat in an election year. King turned it around on McEnany:
But if we're going to point to the “refer you to your old words game,” you've got Senator Graham, Senator McConnell, Senator Cruz, who all said something very different in 2016. Is this really just all about politics, whoever's in power, whoever has the votes, that's how it goes, folks?
But given the opportunity to do the same to a Democrat, the CBS hosts failed to ask about their own hypocrisy. Speaking truth to power means, apparently, just repeating whatever the Democrats want.

8:03:48ANTHONY MASON: Democratic Senator Amy Klobuchar is a member of the Senate judiciary committee. She'll be directly involved in the confirmation of the next Supreme Court justice. She joins us now. Senator, good morning.
SENATOR AMY KLOBUCHAR: Thank you so much. It’s great to be on.
MASON; Senator, Senator Chuck Schumer said over the weekend that nothing is off the table if Republicans move to fill Justice Ginsburg's seat. Kayleigh Mcenany told us this morning there will be a nomination this week. What are Democrats prepared to do to fight back?
...
MASON: That's clearly not happening. The President says he's going to put out a nomination this week.
KLOBUCHAR: Sure, but let's --
MASON: What are you going to do?
...
KLOBUCHAR: And so regardless of what Donald Trump is going to do, my colleagues don't have to go lockstep with him. They can look in their own souls and their integrity and make a decision. So, I'm not going to concede whatever strategies we have to deploy before we see what they do.
...
MASON: As you said, Senator Susan Collins and Lisa Murkowski, Republicans, are both opposed to filling the seat this close to the election. Do you think there will be other Republican votes?
...
KLOBUCHAR: She got on the Supreme Court as only the second woman appointed after Sandra Day O’Connor. And she became a cultural icon in her ‘80s.
KING: I know, Senator, you're right about that. We could say she persisted, and she was certainly beloved it seems on both sides of the aisle. But the truth of the matter, to get back to Anthony's point for a second. The numbers are against you. So are Democrats putting pressure on Republicans to look in their soul, as you say, to do in your opinion the right thing? Are you pressuring people, you and your colleagues behind the scenes? If so, who?
...
KING: Senator there's a vote -- there's a lot on the line for both sides. Both sides will tell you there's a lot on the line. What do you think has more incentive to go to the polls? Because of this latest turn of events? This is isn't even the October surprise. Who do you think has more incentive, the Democrats or the Republican voters?
...
MASON: Senator Klobuchar, thank you so much for being with us this morning.
