Hillary Clinton will just do anything to keep herself in the spotlight, apparently. After recently appearing on a “non-partisan” Freeform show, she’s already back in the media with a brand-new show on the horizon. On October 1, The CW announced that it will be developing an election anthology series titled The Woman’s Hour on behalf of Warner Bros. TV, Amblin Entertainment, and Hillary Clinton herself. Based on Elaine Weiss’ book The Woman’s Hour: The Great Fight to Win the Vote, the first season will reportedly follow the ratification of the 19th Amendment giving women the right to vote. Subsequent seasons would “celebrate those who changed history and have strong contemporary reverberations, appealing to today’s rising tide of young, politically active audiences.” The book was first optioned in 2018 after Weiss personally introduced it to Clinton. According to Weiss, she made it her "mission" to have Hillary Clinton read her book after “realizing the striking parallels between the women’s suffrage movement and the 2016 presidential election between Clinton and Donald Trump.” Clinton apparently agreed and quickly pushed the project forward with the help of longtime supporter Steven Spielberg. It may be hard for all three of these people to believe, but Hillary Clinton’s campaign was not the same thing as the women’s suffrage movement, not even close. The fact that they seek to draw comparisons only makes it worse, especially since most white women actually voted for Trump in 2016. Any attempt to project her memorable loss as a fight for all women just comes off as sad and out-of-touch, much like Hillary herself. It’s also serendipitous that this news should drop within the week of the news that Hillary Clinton allegedly approved of the Russian collusion narrative used to attack Donald Trump. Now instead of expecting any answers on that news, we can expect reporters fielding questions about how bold and exciting her pet project will be. It’ll be like 2016 all over again. There’s no expected release date for the series. Hopefully, it will stay that way.
