Stephanopoulos, Fauci Lament ‘Pressure’ of Working With Trump Vs. ‘Refreshing’ Science-Following Biden #Political

https://ift.tt/1oDyG7U

Good Morning America anchor George Stephanopoulos was just one of many journalists this week who helped Dr. Anthony Fauci embrace his new role as a cheerleader for team Biden. On Monday’s GMA, Stephanopoulos asked the highly respected infection disease expert to get political and compare how different it’s been working for President Biden this past week, instead of Trump.

While Dr. Fauci has helped many administrations over the years handling health outbreaks, he frequently butted heads with President Trump and the media salivated over it, while exaggerating their disagreements to further the narrative that the Trump administration was anti-science. Well it seems now that Biden is in office, Fauci has become more eager to give media interviews criticizing the former administration and lauding the new one.

On Monday’s GMA, Stephanopoulos invited Fauci to contrast the two administrations “[Y]ou've been under a lot of pressure over the last year, what's the number one change you've noticed between---from President Biden -- to President Biden from President Trump?”

Just as he did with MSNBC, the White House press and The New York Times, Fauci went political by praising Biden as an honest and transparent president who is "letting science rule," unlike the previous president:

FAUCI: It was very clear, George, and it was articulated multiple times, the president has said it publicly, but in a private session, just sitting down with him and with the medical team, he's very serious. He said, Science is going to rule. We're going to go by the facts, we’re going to go by the evidence, we’re going to go by the data. If something is wrong, like I just said, we're going to try to fix it. We're going to pull out all the stops to get our arms around this. Getting the vaccine on track is his highest priority.

So I mean, the idea that the president himself sits down with you and says, I want science to rule, go out there and do everything we need to do to get it done, just is really very refreshing.

Right before this question, Fauci also volunteered how Biden would fix things while Trump “blamed people:”

Because President Biden has said right from the beginning, he's going to pull out all the stops, if things aren't working well, instead of blaming people we're going to just try to fix it and jump all over it. That's what we're doing.

Immediately after this question, Stephanopoulos asked the doctor to share how he received an envelope containing a mysterious powder while working in the Trump administration last year. Fauci elaborated more to the New York Times about this incident, deliberately placing blame for the threats on his life on “right-wing craziness.

DR. ANTHONY FAUCI: …[I] say, we don't have enough vaccine we have people lined up. We have to find out at the local level what's going on and how to fix it. Because President Biden has said right from the beginning, he's going to pull out all the stops, if things aren't working well, instead of blaming people we're going to just try to fix it and jump all over it. That's what we're doing. It’s going to take a little time. You're going to still hear about people who aren't get vaccinated who want it as well as vaccine that’s on the shelf. But Hopefully in a very reasonable amount of time, that’s going to get corrected.

GEORGE STEPHANOPOULOS: We got 25 million cases over the last year, you've been under a lot of pressure over the last year, what's the number one change you've noticed between---from President Biden -- to President Biden from President Trump?

STEPHANOPOULOS: You also faced serious personal threats over the last year. I was horrified to read you had one incident where you opened up an envelope and feared you were poisoned?

FAUCI: Yeah, that was very traumatic George, but more so for my wife and my children, who were really, really horrified by that, because for a while there, I said in the Times article, there was only three possibilities -- a hoax, which I was hoping and praying it was. It was anthrax which would require my taking 30-60 days of Cipro, or it was ricin, which means I was dead. No matter what you could do. So for a certain point there, until the FBI and the hazmat people figured out it was it was a very, very difficult period.

STEPHANOPOULOS: Well we're glad you're okay Dr. Fauci, thanks for being with us this morning.
