Politico Gets Weird: Biden Keeps The 'Southern Border Largely Closed' #Political
Politico's Anita Kumar reported the White House appointed an old Obama hand named Lucas Guttentag as "senior counselor on immigration policy: "Guttentag will not only help dismantle Trump-era policies but will coordinate Biden policy among various agencies and departments."
But the story got weird near the end, in paragraph fifteen:
His appointment comes as the White House continues to keep the southern border largely closed during the pandemic, blocking migrants from seeking asylum, despite mounting legal challenges and renewed criticism from allies about the 16-month closure.
But wait, then there's reality: "Overall, U.S. authorities stopped migrants about 210,000 times at the border in July, up from 188,829 in June and the highest in more than 20 years." Jonathan Turcotte at the National Republican Senatorial Committee was pointing and laughing on Twitter:
LOL @politico says the Southern border is “largely closed.”
Have they been living under a rock?
But then again, they do have a history of denying Biden’s border crisis… https://t.co/Egqe1yjCv3 pic.twitter.com/q5l47E19RL

The NRSC noticed in April that Politico touted a "migrant crisis" under Trump. Sarah Ferris reported on June 21, 2019:
House Democrats will soon vote on a move that some of its members once considered unthinkable: Delivering billions of dollars to the Trump administration to confront the migrant crisis at the southern border....
Thursday's presentations are the latest of several outreach meetings led by House Appropriations Committee Chairwoman Nita Lowey (D-N.Y.), as well as Reps. Lucille Roybal-Allard (D-Calif.) and Rosa DeLauro (D-Conn.) as the caucus has crafted its response to the border crisis.
And again on July 3, 2019:
In private this week, Speaker Nancy Pelosi and other Democratic leaders have vowed to continue ramping up their response to the migrant crisis, with plans to demand more protections for those detained — possibly through an upcoming spending bill, according to multiple lawmakers.
It's the worst in 20 years now, and yet now the word "crisis" is nowhere to be found. Massive immigration is apparently not a "crisis"...because it's a strategy?
