Scarborough: House GOP Plans Please Jew-Haters, Tax Cheaters, Illegal Aliens and Putin #Political

https://bit.ly/3tYSdKD

Mika Brzezinski Joe Scarborough Willie Geist MSNBC Morning Joe 11-1-23 Quick: somebody call the Woke Speech Police! When's the last time you heard Joe Scarborough—or any liberal-media type—speak of "illegal immigrants?"

Scarborough surely knows that the approved woke terms are "migrants" or "undocumented persons."

But so desperate is Scarborough to trash and scaremonger Speaker Mike Johnson's legislative proposal to fund Israel without a laundry list of other spending items, that on today's Morning Joe, he was willing to violate the woke speech code.

Scarborough claimed that Johnson's proposal would appeal to "illegal immigrants," in addition to a host of other reprobates: "anti-Semites, tax-cheat billionaires, and Vladimir Putin!" Scarborough underlined: "And that's Mike Johnson's first move."

Jonathan Lemire said Johnson was just pleasing his Republican base, but "this is not going to go anywhere. The president has already said he'll veto it. It's not going to get through the Senate." In the land of Morning Joe, the House shouldn't get any room to negotiate a compromise. They should be punished for not being submissive to whatever Chuck Schumer and Joe Biden want.

Man, the host of this show really hates the House Republicans -- as if he was never one of them.

This was the second day running that Scarborough has sought to trash Speaker Johnson's legislative proposal. Yesterday, as we noted, Scarborough ranted at length about how the funding for the IRS that Johnson would rescind would go to audit "billionaire tax cheats." But as we pointed out, the additional funding that Biden and the Democrats want would add somewhere between 27 and 118 additional IRS agents for every billionaire in the US

As we wrote, far from focusing audit efforts exclusively on billionaires, under the Biden plan, "millions of non-billionaire Americans would be subjected to the gimlet gaze of the IRS' green-eyeshade gang."

Note: Morning Joe did mention that Secretary of State Antony Blinken met with Speaker Johnson yesterday to discuss Biden's funding request, and that Blinken called the meeting "very positive."  Blinken apparently didn't get Scarborough's memo: nary a positive word shall be said about Johnson, the guy who fashions legislation to appeal to anti-Semites, Putin, and illegal immigrants!

On Morning Joe, Joe Scarborough claiming that Republican House Speaker Mike Johnson's legislative proposal to fund Israel would appeal to "illegal immigrants" was sponsored in part by Liberty Mutual, Stanley Steemer, WeatherTech, and Abbvie, maker of Rinvoq.

Here' the transcript.

WILLIE GEIST: As expected, the White House has come out against the House Republicans' aid package for Israel, the one we were talking about yesterday. That plan includes $14.3 billion in emergency funding, but rescinds that same amount of IRS funding from the Inflation Reduction Act. That funding was earmarked for additional IRS agents to go after tax delinquents.

The Office of Management and Budget says President Biden would veto the Republican proposal if it comes to his desk. A statement from the OMB reads in part, quote, the bill fails to meet the urgency of the moment by deepening our divides and severely eroding historic bipartisan support for Israel's security.

The president has made it clear he wants an aid package that includes funding for Israel, Ukraine, efforts to contain China, and additional support for U.S. border security. Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer and Minority Leader Mitch McConnell yesterday both highlighted their support for voting on a whole supplemental package.

Also yesterday, Secretary of State Antony Blinken met with House Speaker Mike Johnson for about 25 minutes to discuss the President's funding request. The Secretary called it a, quote, very positive meeting, but shared no additional details.

. . .

JONATHAN LEMIRE: The politics of this just don't make much sense, except when you look at it as Speaker Johnson nodding to his conservative base, and in particular, those handful of Republicans in the House who got him that job by ousting Kevin McCarthy.

This is a nod to them. Most of those in that group oppose aid to Ukraine. That's not part of this. This is just Israel. And they are all, or some of them, don't want to see the U.S. spending money for any overseas aid.

Now, this is not going to go anywhere. The president has already said he'll veto it. It's not going to get through the Senate. They're going to jam this up; they're going to restore a lot. But it's going to slow down! It's going to slow down the ability to get U.S. aid to Israel at a time when they need it the most.

JOE SCARBOROUGH: Yeah! You know, what I don't understand, Willie, is this.

I mean, the only people that would like this bill other than Mike Johnson's small group of people there. A bill that stops funding for Israel, stops funding for Ukraine, stops funding for the border, stops funding to, to, to protect Taiwan from China, would be anti-Semites who hate Israel and hate Jews. Tax-cheat billionaires. Illegal immigrants. And Vladimir Putin!

Seriously! How do you put that on the 30-second ad if you're a Republican? Swear to God! Those are the four categories of people who would be glad if this bill continued to languish. And that's Mike Johnson's first move.
