NewsBusters Podcast: Harris vs. Trump, or 'Unicorn Sparkles vs. Puke' #Political
Donald Trump held a press conference, for which he received zero credit. But at least it apparently shamed Kamala Harris into taking a few questions. J.D. Vance strolling over to Kamala's traveling press corps on the tarmac in Eau Claire, Wisconsin to joke about how they looked "lonely" must have had an effect.
Before that, ABC’s Kyra Phillips announced after they dropped out of covering Trump that ABC would like to provide equal time for Democrat press conferences. That's unintentionally hilarious. Former Washington Post media reporter Paul Farhi had this amazing tweet: "Harris’ campaign 'declined a request for comment' about why she has declined media requests for comment."
The current Democrat spin is they're full of joy over their (media-manufactured) momentum. The Washington Post contrasted the campaigns on Friday. On the front page, they talked of Trump’s "frustrations and falsehoods" in his press conference. On page A7 is the contrast: “In Harris-Walz camp, tidings of joy overtake existential dread.” Reporters Ashley Parker and Josh Dawsey’s entire first paragraph is:
"Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz is joyous about the joy."
Their thesis: Trump and Vance offer a "dark and dystopian vision" about life under Biden -- like the media weren't viciously negative under Trump? -- while Team Harris is "joyous about the joy." Since Biden was forced out, the reporters insisted ”the heady combination of Democratic relief and genuine enthusiasm for his replacement has transformed the Democratic ticket — a metamorphosis turbocharged by Tuesday’s addition of Walz as Harris’s No. 2.” Turbocharged enthusiasm!
One Harris supporter said the Harris-Trump contrast was "unicorn sparkles versus puke." Trump goes on Truth Social and rips "George Slopadopoulos" and the media. They see that as "name-calling and trolling," and don't realize that to conservatives, mocking the slavishly Democrat media provides joy.
Finally, we have reached the end of summer internship season at the MRC. Our NewsBusters interns Sarah Butler, Mary Clare Waldron, and Michael Wnek reflect on what it was like to sink into the liberal media stream and chronicle what happened in politics.
