CBS News Touts a 'Groundswell' Against DeSantis That's Less Than TEN #Political

Question: How large does a protest have to be for the liberal media to consider it a “groundswell”?

Answer: If it’s a leftist protest, you can have less than ten.

Consider the case of Gov. Ron DeSantis and Florida A&M University. On Wednesday’s CBS Evening News Plus, anchor John Dickerson pushed this story:

JOHN DICKERSON: Tonight, Florida A&M, the state's only public historically black college, is involved in a dispute over diversity, equity and inclusion policies and the selection of its next president. Students and alumni say the governor's involvement reflects a broader effort to reduce state support for diversity programs.

He turned to reporter Manuel Bojorquez for the DEI tussle in Tallahassee:

MANUEL BOJORQUEZ: The meeting was contentious….But the board of governors approved the controversial nominee, Marva Johnson, to be president of Florida A&M University….But there's been a groundswell of students and alumni of the historically black college opposed to her selection.

The problem? CBS only showed about seven protesters! WCTV, the CBS affiliate in Tallahassee, began its story:At least 10 Florida A&M University students gathered on campus at Eternal Flame Wednesday morning to rally against Marva Johnson, who was elected as the university’s next president last month.”

Were three of them having a cigarette break?

One of the protesters shown on CBS pulled out the usual attack: Marva Johnson ain’t really black. “Yes, she may look like us. Yes, she may try to talk like us, but she is not for us and she does not represent us.”

The other rule of liberal-media coverage of protests is to pretend the leftists aren’t ideological. There's no reference to anyone who's liberal, leftist, radical, progressive, woke, or even Democrat. The protesters are simply "students and alumni," "some," and "critics," as in "Critics argue Johnson lacks the experience."

The WCTV article touted a sign held by one protester about freedom, but failed to mention it quoted Assata Shakur. Who's that? She used to be known as Joanne Chesimard, found guilty of killing a New Jersey state trooper in 1973 as part of the radical "Black Liberation Army." She escaped prison and ended up in Cuba.

The story was balanced a bit by a DeSantis soundbite and Marva Johnson's pledges to serve all. The CBS reporter blamed DeSantis for blocking "African-American" AP courses in high schools:

BOJORQUEZ: Some see the nomination as another move by the governor to restrict diversity and inclusion programs in Florida schools. In 2023, DeSantis signed a bill that banned funding for DEI programs at universities and blocked advanced placement African-American courses at high schools.

GOV. RON DeSANTIS: DEI is better viewed as standing for discrimination, exclusion and indoctrination, and that has no place in our public institutions.

BOJORQUEZ: Jakisha Kidd is an alumna who pledges to continue holding Johnson accountable.

JAKISHA KIDD: The issue is that the philosophically we are in a time where we are one of many institutions that are part of this higher education takeover in the state of Florida.

This was a two-minute story, so CBS wasn't going to explain how the African-American Studies class was obviously woke, with sections titled “Intersectionality and Activism,” “Black Queer Studies,” “‘Postracial’ Racism and Colorblindness,” “Incarceration and Abolition,” “Movements for Black Lives” and “The Reparations Movement.”
