David Bozell Tells Derek Hunter on WMAL: Late-Night TV is on Its Way Out #Political

On today's edition of The Derek Hunter Show on WMAL, David Bozell, president of the Media Research Center, offered a candid critique of late-night television, broadcast obligations, and the hypocrisy of the liberal media.

Bozell opened by addressing the misinformation surrounding Jimmy Kimmel’s brief “cancellation.” Contrary to viral reports, he emphasized, “The government had nothing to do with this. The affiliates flexed a little bit of their muscle. They were responding to their customers, their constituents… This wasn’t just conservatives complaining—these were major blue markets that had enough.”

Bozell also dissected the decline of late-night TV, attributing it to a shift from humor-first programming to politically motivated content. “Kimmel had an opportunity to reach across the aisle… He could have brought on someone like Adam Carolla to explain Charlie Kirk and had the best-rated show he’s had in months. But uncomfortable truth doesn’t win Emmys.”

As Bozell puts it, late-night TV isn’t just losing viewers—it’s losing relevance. And until that changes, the only thing keeping it alive might be Hollywood’s awards, not its audience.
