Sec. Hegseth: War Department Investigating One of the ‘Seditious Six’ in Video #Political

Captain Mark Kelly, USN (Ret.) – one of six Democrat lawmakers with military or intelligence backgrounds in a viral video urging servicemembers to “refuse illegal orders” – is under investigation, the U.S. War Department reported Monday:

“The Department of War has received serious allegations of misconduct against Captain Mark Kelly, USN (Ret.). In accordance with the Uniform Code of Military Justice, 10 U.S.C. § 688, and other applicable regulations, a thorough review of these allegations has been initiated to determine further actions, which may include recall to active duty for court-martial proceedings or administrative measures.”

Both the cited code and federal law “prohibit actions intended to interfere with the loyalty, morale, or good order and discipline of the armed forces,” the War Department explains in a social media post. “Any violations will be addressed through appropriate legal channels.”

Military orders, like civilians, enjoy the presumption of innocence, the post notes. Additionally, legality is determined by legislation and judicial review, not subjective, the post warns:

“All servicemembers are reminded that they have a legal obligation under the UCMJ to obey lawful orders and that orders are presumed to be lawful. A servicemember’s personal philosophy does not justify or excuse the disobedience of an otherwise lawful order.”

Kelly is the only former member of military appearing in the video who is subject to punishment under the code, because the others, while no longer in active service, are not technically “retired.”

The six Democrat lawmakers using their credentials and prior service to convince servicemembers to defy orders they’re given are:

  • Sen. Elissa Slotkin (D-Mich.)
  • Sen. Mark Kelly (D-Ariz.)
  • Rep. Chris Deluzio (D-Pa.)
  • Rep. Maggie Goodlander (D-N.H.)
  • Rep. Chrissy Houlahan (D-Pa.)
  • Rep. Jason Crow (D-Colo.)

“The video made by the ‘Seditious Six’ was despicable, reckless, and false,” War Department Secretary Peter Hegseth wrote Monday:

“Encouraging our warriors to ignore the orders of their Commanders undermines every aspect of ‘good order and discipline.’ Their foolish screed sows doubt and confusion — which only puts our warriors in danger.”

Kelly’s remarks “were addressed directly to all troops while explicitly using his rank and service affiliation—lending the appearance of authority to his words,” Hegseth noted:

“Kelly’s conduct brings discredit upon the armed forces and will be addressed appropriately.”
