Klepper Thinks It's Hypocritical To Support Iranian Protestors And ICE #Political

A bitterly sarcastic Jordan Klepper tried to keep alive the idea that supporting the Iranian protestors is incompatible with seeing nothing wrong in how ICE is operating in Minneapolis, Minnesota, on Wednesday’s episode of The Daily Show on Comedy Central.

Discussing a recent speech President Trump gave, Klepper recalled, “He also gave a speech where he had a message for all the people who have been out on the streets for the last few days.”

In a clip, Trump urged Iranian protestors to “Keep protesting… And save the name of the killers and the abusers that are abusing you. You're being very badly abused…One death is too much.”

Klepper responded by pretending to be impressed, “Wow, wow, standing up for the protestors in Minnesota. You know, people call this guy a dictator, a fascist, a pedophile protector, but here he is, with a full-throated defense of Americans' right to protest their government.”

Another clip of Trump then showed him declaring, “I've canceled all meetings with the Iranian officials until the senseless killing of protesters stops.”

Starting to turn the conversation back towards ICE and Minnesota, Klepper eventually dropped the sarcasm, “Ah, he's talking about Iran. My mistake. Yes, but you know what? It doesn't matter, because President Trump is nothing if not consistent in his beliefs and ironclad in his principles. And I know that his police force will treat Americans with that same empathy and restraint when they -- ah, [bleep], you know where this is going.”

In yet another clip, ABC reporter Faith Abubey narrated over footage of “flash bangs lighting up the Minneapolis skies. Agents seen descending on protesters. Earlier Tuesday, federal agents seen dragging people out of their cars and spraying others directly in the face with chemicals.”

Reacting to a part of the video that showed ICE agents firing pepper balls at a man, Klepper reacted, “Holy shit! I don't know what's more terrifying: them hitting that guy point-blank with pepper balls or him not even flinching at them! Although, to be fair, it's nine degrees out there. The pepper spray is only warming him up.”

Reports vary, but Klepper’s analogy required him to omit how anywhere from 2,500 to 20,000 Iranian protestors have been killed and that the regime has used machine guns on them, and to compare that to the use of pepper spray and flash bangs is obscene.

Here is a transcript for the January 14 show:
