New Mexico ‘Islamist’ Compound: Father Wanted Exorcism for Missing 4-Year-Old Boy

With the continuing saga of the compound in Amelia, New Mexico, where 11 children ranging from a year old to 15 years old, 3 adult women and two men, were recently located living in deplorable conditions, the details of the story continues to get even more strange and produced more questions than answers.

Police were originally searching for a then 3-year-old boy who had been missing when they discovered the compound. After a few days of surveillance, they investigators moved in and found the children with no water, little food and only clothed in rags. The children have been turned over to New Mexico Children Youth and Families Department, according to Taos County Sheriff Jerry Hogrefe.

Big League Politics reported on Tuesday that upon further inspection of the compound, police have now located the remains of a young boy. It is unclear if the remains belong to the 4-year-old missing boy from Georgia that prompted the investigation.

Monday marked Abdul-Ghani Wahhaj’s 4th birthday, but he is still no where to be found.

In December, the child’s mother told Clayton police Siraj Ibn Wahhaj took the boy and headed west. A warrant that was obtained by The Atlanta Journal-Consistution said they left when the father mentioned his intentions of performing an “exorcism” on his son because 4-year-old Abdul-Ghani was “possessed by the Devil.” The boy battled neurological problems from hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy, which is defined as ” a type of brain damage that occurs when an infant’s brain doesn’t receive enough oxygen and blood. It is a dangerous condition that requires immediate medical intervention.”

According to The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, the last time the 4-year-old boy was seen was was when the child and his father were involved in a single-vehicle car accident in Chilton County Alabama on December 13th. Police say there were five other children and two adults also in the vehicle. Wahhaj told officers they were headed to New Mexico for a camping trip.

Police arrested the two adult males and three adult women who were found living on site at the compound. Siraj Wahhaj, age 39 was arrested for child abduction and another man, Lucas Morten was arrested for alleged harboring a fugitive (Wahhaj-who police had been looking for since December.)

The three women are thought to be mother’s to the 11 children, Hujrah Wahhaj, age 38, Subhannah Wahhaj, age 35, and Jany Leveille, age 35 are all currently in the Taos Adult Detention Center.
