123 Children Found In Michigan Sex Trafficking Sting
Authorities have located 123 children in the Wayne County area, which includes Detroit, Michigan, as part of a one-day sweep last month.
Operation MISafeKid, a missing juvenile sweep held on September 26th, that placed an emphasis on locating children who were all victims of sex trafficking, according to the U.S. Marshals Service.
The U.S. Marshals Office’s Detroit Missing Child Recovery Unit includes the U.S. Marshals Service Sex Offender Investigations Branch, Michigan State Police and law enforcement officers from agencies within Wayne County.
According to the report, the operation had 301 case files for missing children before the sweep, which was the first of its kind in Wayne County.

The unit coordinated with the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, HUD-OIG, Detroit Police Department and the Michigan State Police and had been investigating other missing child case files prior to the one-day operation last month.
Officers were given the case files and began investigating the missing children’s whereabouts by visiting friend’s homes, schools, and last known addresses in hopes of finding them in a safe place.
The children were all interviewed by authorities about the possibility of being sexually victimized or used in sex trafficking rings and officials reported three identified as possible sex trafficking cases.
One homeless teenager was transported back to the command post after authorities discovered he had not had anything to eat in over three days. From there, he was debriefed and turned over to Child Protective Services for aftercare, according to the release.
