LGBTQ Ohio University Student Arrested After Fabricating Threats
A University of Ohio student has been arrested after she reported receiving threatening messages to campus police, which she fabricated.
“Anna Ayers, commissioner of the Ohio University Student Senate Appropriations Commission, was arrested by the OU Police Department on Monday and charged with three counts of making false alarms,” the school’s newspaper said.
According to the report, Ayers, a high-ranking member of the student government, reported receiving three threatening messages referencing her “LGBTQ identity,” two to her office in the Student Senate, and one to her personal residence. After police investigated, they found that Ayers had written and sent the threats to herself.
The Student Senate president said that the organization is complying with the campus police investigation.

“According to OUPD’s report, making false alarms is a first-degree misdemeanor that carries a maximum penalty of 6 months in jail and a $1,000 fine,” the report said. “Ayers is scheduled to appear in Athens County Municipal Court on Thursday morning.”
The school newspaper chose not to reference Ayers as a member of the LGBT community in the headline of their follow up report on her arrest, as they did in the initial story on the false death threats.
