Del Mar College Disavows Social Media Post By Professor Bribing His Students To Vote For Beto O’Rourke
On Monday a Texas community college disavowed a social media post by a professor who supports Beto O’Rourke for his offering students extra credit for voting in the midterm elections.
“I am offering extra credit for my students for voting beginning tomorrow! We must show up for Beto to paint Texas blue!” Adrian Clark, a political science professor at Del Mar College in Corpus Christi, wrote in a Facebook post Sunday, according to a screenshot published by NBC-affiliated KRIS.
Del Mar’s executive director of strategic communication and government relations, Claudia Jackson, released a statement on the situation late Monday evening:

“The College is aware of a post made by an employee on a non-College, social media site offering extra class credit for voting in the upcoming election. The message was not posted on behalf of the College. The College has clarified that no extra credit should be offered or granted for voting in any election.”
“The College takes seriously institutional policy and State law regarding requirements to remain neutral in all partisan political activities, issues, speeches and campaigns. The College and its employees will abide by all state, local, and federal laws regarding public speech, campaigning, and other political activities. Additionally, the College does not comment on internal personnel matters.”
KRISTV.com reports that Clark received his bachelor’s degree from the University of Sussex and his master’s and PhD from Rice University.
Twitter user Feathers and Nails (@FeatherandNail) tweeted asking if Del Mar College had suspended Clark for violating federal and state voter laws:
“@DelMarCollege Have you suspended Prof. Adrian Clark for violating federal and state voter laws by offering a credit (Value of $128) to students who vote? This is Election Bribery under both State & Federal Law. https://statutes.capitol.texas.gov/Docs/PE/htm/PE.36.htm …”

Other Twitter users weighed in as well with one (crystal @crystal4408) asking whether or not students will still receive extra credit if they vote for Ted Cruz rather than Beto:
O’Rourke is currently trailing Senator Ted Cruz by 7 percentage points in the U.S. Senate race, according to the latest polls from Real Clear Politics.
