Department Of Homeland Security Backs President Trump, Bad Actors From Beyond Central America Mixed In With Caravan Migrants
The Department of Homeland Security has confirmed President Trump’s claims that there are bad actors mixed in the caravan “currently traveling through Mexico toward the U.S.,” with some having “significant criminal histories,” according to a series of tweets from spokesperson Tyler Houlton Tuesday afternoon.
“.@DHSgov can confirm that there are individuals within the caravan who are gang members or have significant criminal histories.”

“Stopping the caravan is not just about national security or preventing crime, it is also about national sovereignty and the rule of law. Those who seek to come to America must do so the right and legal way.”

Homeland Security made the assertion just after Trump acknowledged that there had been “no proof” that anyone from the Middle East had joined the 7,000+ person strong caravan, after claiming earlier in the week that “Middle Easterners” were more than likely sprinkled in with the group of migrants traveling with the caravan. The majority of those traveling with the caravan have come from Honduras, Guatemala, and El Salvador.
President Trump tweeted on Monday, “Sadly, it looks like Mexico’s Police and Military are unable to stop the Caravan heading to the Southern Border of the United States. Criminals and unknown Middle Easterners are mixed in. I have alerted Border Patrol and Military that this is a National Emergy[sic]. Must change laws!”

Trump, while speaking to ABC’s Jonathan Karl on Monday, continued the thought saying, “You’re going to find MS-13, you’re going to find Middle Easterners, you’re going to find everything. And guess what? We’re not allowing them in our country,”
When asked about the comments the next day, President Trump had to admit that up until that point there was “no proof” to support his claims, but maintained that “there could very well be” people of Middle Eastern descent among the travelers with the caravan.
With the caravan making its way into Mexico, continuing on toward the U.S. border earlier this week, President Trump vowed to “begin cutting off” or “substantially reducing” U.S. foreign aid to all three Central American countries, stressing that they had not done enough to stop people “from leaving their country and coming illegally to the U.S.”
“Guatemala, Honduras and El Salvador were not able to do the job of stopping people from leaving their country and coming illegally to the U.S. We will now begin cutting off, or substantially reducing, the massive foreign aid routinely given to them.”

The president is also upset with the Mexican government over its failure to stop the caravan from making progress in its charge to reach the United States. Mexico had maintained that anyone with appropriate documentation, including a visa, would be allowed to enter and move freely through the country.
The North American nation also said it would also be working alongside the United Nations’ Refugee Agency (UNHCR), to process anyone who wishes to make an asylum request within the country.
UNHSCR spokesperson Adrian Edwards issued a reminder to countries included in the caravan’s route on Tuesday – which presumably includes the United States – that the group “is likely to include people in real danger.”
“In any situation like this, it is essential that people have the chance to request asylum and have their international protection needs properly assessed before any decision on return/deportation is made,” the UNHCR said.
President Trump tweeted on Wednesday that anyone advocating for illegal immigration need look no further than Europe to see the affects.
“For those who want and advocate for illegal immigration, just take a good look at what has happened to Europe over the last 5 years. A total mess! They only wish they had that decision to make over again.”

On Thursday morning, the president reminded everyone that the laws inspired by Democrats are making things tough at the border, that he will be bringing out the military, and declaring those trying to enter the country illegally, “will be stopped!”
“Brandon Judd of the National Border Patrol Council is right when he says on @foxandfriends that the Democrat inspired laws make it tough for us to stop people at the Border. MUST BE CHANDED, but I am bringing out the military for this National Emergency. They will be stopped!”
