President Donald Trump calls for new limits on asylum claims at a White House event on Thursday, pushing the issue of immigration ahead of midterm elections next week, deciding the control of Congress.
Polling consistently shows that immigration is an important issue for Republican voters. Three-quarters of registered Republicans ranked immigration as “one of the single most important” issues or a “very important” issue driving their midterm votes, just behind taxes and the economy, according to a recent Washington Post-ABC News poll.
