Comey Refuses to Answer Questions in Closed-Door GOP Interview

What was Comey's hype about transparency all about when he didn't answer questions anyway, many people are asking regarding Comey’s closed-door interview on Friday (Dec. 7).

Billed as “high profile testimony” in front of House Judiciary Committee and Oversight committees, Former (fired) FBI Director James Comey turned out to be anti-climactic.

Comey wouldn’t answer key questions on the Clinton email scandal. In a fine show of arrogant passive aggressiveness, Comey responded according to Maria Bartiromo on Fox Business:

“I don’t know” 167 times

“I can’t remember” 72 times

“I don’t recall” 8 times.

Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL), during a Fox News Channel’s “America’s Newsroom” interview, said he noted that when something was favorable to Trump, Comey’s memory got "hazier and hazier."

Gaetz said: “I learned that Jim Comey’s amnesia is very selective on any facts that are unfavorable to President Trump, he remembers them with great particularity. But when you try to create four corners around who knows about the communications, who came into possession of documents, then Comey becomes hazier and hazier on the actual details,”

President Trump tweeted more directly about Comey's lack of candor: "Leakin’ James Comey must have set a record for who lied the most to Congress in one day. His Friday testimony was so untruthful! This whole deal is a Rigged Fraud headed up by dishonest people who would do anything so that I could not become President. They are now exposed!

On 245 occasions, former FBI Director James Comey told House investigators he didn’t know, didn’t recall, or couldn’t remember things when asked. Opened investigations on 4 Americans (not 2) - didn’t know who signed off and didn’t know Christopher Steele. All lies!'

In a more forthcoming mode (sans lawyers), Comey was reported to have said two days after his “interview”: “use every breath we have" to defeat President Trump in 2020.

It seems Comey protests too much.

One blogger wrote of Comey's Friday interview: "The taller they are, the lower they fall."

Chris Swecker writing for Fox News (Dec.10) ended an opinion article with this recommendation: “Comey’s name should be forever removed from the roster of FBI employees who have embraced the core values of the FBI and who have wielded the enormous power of the justice system with impartiality and integrity.”
