British independent journalist Tommy Robinson raised donations and gifted a £20,000 power wheelchair to an 8-year-old with cerebral palsy over Christmas.
Controversial British journalist Tommy Robinson showed his softer side over the Christmas holiday when he and a film crew surprised an 8-year-old suffering from cerebral palsy with an expensive power wheelchair for Christmas.
The touching video shows Tommy Robinson join the child, Daisy, as she unwraps her present, transitions to the new chair, and explores the new options made available to her from the charitable act.
Robinson raised the money on the popular crowdfunding platform GoFundMe, and revealed that the Daisy is the daughter of a soldier in the British Armed Forces.
“The daughter of one of our armed forces members needs a specially adapted wheelchair to make her life easier,” Robinson wrote, adding that “The NHS can’t fund this so it’s down to the generosity of the great British public.”
Robinson’s campaign raised £45,487, more than double the amount needed to buy the wheelchair, and pledged to put the rest to good use.
“I’m setting up a registered charitable trust that will focus on military families — like Daisy, and like Gareth Knox before her,” wrote Robinson, “In fact, Knox and Daisy’s mother have both agreed to sit as trustees on that charitable trust.”
Robinson shows this softer side after a particularly difficult year, in which he was arrested and detained for months on spurious and constantly changing charges, only to be unceremoniously freed after the British public organized near constant demonstrations in protest.
