Mika Coddles George Conway on Lincoln Project/Weaver Sex Scandal #Political
Morning Joe's pretense of journalism hit an abysmal new low today as Mika Brzezinski pretended to question George Conway about the sex scandal engulfing John Weaver, a co-founder along with Conway of the Lincoln Project. Conway had been on the show to thump the tub for Trump's impeachment over the January 6 riot, and in making her goodbyes, Mika apologized for asking an eensy-weensy question about it, saying she'd be "remiss" if she didn't.
I’d be remiss not to ask you about the story about John Weaver, who is a founding member of the Lincoln Project, 21 men accusing him of online harassment. Your organization has a pretty clear statement on this kind of harassment. But wanted to ask you directly about this issue.
That's not actually a question! It's a "please go ahead now."
Conway had the chutzpah to claim he barely knew Weaver, his co-founder of the Lincoln Project! And other than saying it was terrible and appalling, Conway utterly dodged the "question." Stammering and stumbling, he replied:
CONWAY: I didn’t know John very well. I frankly only spoke to him a couple times on the phone early on in the Lincoln Project. I just, I, I, it’s almost — I don’t know even know what to say. It’s just terrible. I, I, it leaves me speechless, frankly."
Neither Mika, nor the New York Times headline she displayed, mentioned the nature of the harassment, in which Weaver sent inappropriate messages of a sexual nature to younger men, including offers of career advancement in return for sexual favors.
On Sunday night, the Daily Caller reported that MSNBC had hosted Lincoln Project spokesmen at least 17 times since the Weaver allegations were reported by Ryan Girdusky in The American Conservative on January 11, and they were never asked about the Weaver scandal.
The Lincoln Project was able to avoid commenting on the Weaver allegations partly due to the fact that its co-founders were not asked about them during their many cable news appearances. In the three weeks between Girdusky’s initial report and the Times’ follow-up, George Conway appeared on MSNBC at least two times, Steve Schmidt appeared on MSNBC at least eight times, and Rick Wilson appeared on MSNBC at least seven times.
One could argue this is par for the course, considering NBC's and MSNBC's record on Matt Lauer's in-house abuses, and their related dismissal of Ronan Farrow's reporting on Harvey Weinstein's harassment.
PS: An obviously rattled Conway pronounced Mika's name as "Mike-a."
