Andrea Mitchell Tries to Blame Michigan GOP for Whitmer’s COVID Failures #Political

On her 12:00 p.m. ET hour show on Tuesday, MSNBC anchor and reliable Democratic Party shill Andrea Mitchell futilely tried to blame Republicans in Michigan for the state’s surge in COVID cases, rather than the failed leadership of Democratic Governor Gretchen Whitmer. The liberal host pointed fingers at every other branch of Michigan state government in her desperate attempt to protect the leftist politician from criticism.

Noting to NBC News medical correspondent Dr. John Torres that the CDC director was “calling for a shutdown in response to this surge” in Michigan, Mitchell lamented: “...there’s considerable tension between Governor Whitmer – a Democrat, a Biden ally on the short list for vice president – and the White House over all of this, with pressure on her.” The hack journalist then wildly hurled fault for the public health crisis in all directions away from the governor:

But in fact, she doesn’t have that much running room there. Her hands are pretty well tied in Michigan because of – I know you don’t do politics – but the Republican legislature has stopped her from having emergency authorization over, you know, shutdowns....And she’s facing 10 supreme court lawsuits, in the state supreme court, against shutdowns, having lost her authority.

Mitchell pleaded for Dr. Torres to further absolve Whitmer of any blame: “So, you know, how much can she deal with this and what can she do about the surge if she can’t cut back? She’s urging people to, but she doesn’t have the authority anymore.”

Torres obliged as he agreed that the Democrat’s hands were tied:

And that’s a tough knot to untie. Because if you don’t have the authority, that public health authority, to mandate those shutdowns, then you’re relying on human behavior....If you don’t have the authority to do that, you have to rely on people doing that. And oftentimes, we’re finding out over this last year through the pandemic that simply isn’t happening....We’ve seen other countries around the world as well, the ones that seem to be handling it are the ones that either can mandate those shutdowns or can go ahead and people there are doing what they need to do to keep them under control.

The fact that COVID cases are generally surging in blue states with tougher restrictions and decreasing in red states with more lax restrictions was completely ignored in the discussion. While recently trying to explain that phenomenon, NBC’s Today show claimed “confusion” over the trend and, like Mitchell, came up with theories that protected Democratic governors from blame.

The left-wing media haven’t hesitated to use the pandemic to trash Republican state leaders across the country – just see the false and despicable 60 Minutes hit piece against Florida Governor Ron DeSantis. However, even as the data shows mounting COVID failures in states run by Democrats, reporters either ignore the inconvenient facts or just try to fabricate a partisan narrative that’s more favorable to their side.

Mitchell’s DNC spin session was brought to viewers by ServPro and HughesNet. You can fight back by letting these advertisers know what you think of them sponsoring such content.

ANDREA MITCHELL: Now, we also of course – one of the reasons why there’s so much concern about keeping the vaccines going out, is the surge, getting ahead of the variants or trying to keep pace with the variants. I want to talk about Michigan, which the CDC director, Dr. Walensky, is calling for a shutdown in response to this surge. I’ve done a lot of reporting on this because there’s considerable tension between Governor Whitmer – a Democrat, a Biden ally on the short list for vice president – and the White House over all of this, with pressure on her. But in fact, she doesn’t have that much running room there. Her hands are pretty well tied in Michigan because of – I know you don’t do politics – but the Republican legislature has stopped her from having emergency authorization over, you know, shutdowns. They have, in fact, in Michigan, less restaurants opening, it’s 30%, not 50%, as in some surrounding states, east coast states. So they’ve been pretty conservative about that. And she’s facing 10 supreme court lawsuits, in the state supreme court, against shutdowns, having lost her authority. So, you know, how much can she deal with this and what can she do about the surge if she can’t cut back? She’s urging people to, but she doesn’t have the authority anymore.

DR. JOHN TORRES: And that’s a tough knot to untie. Because if you don’t have the authority, that public health authority, to mandate those shutdowns, then you’re relying on human behavior and on getting across the information, just how important it is to wear a mask, to social distance, and to not go to those areas where there might be cases surging, as in Michigan right there. And maybe shut down things for a little bit to get the cases under control. If you don’t have the authority to do that, you have to rely on people doing that. And oftentimes, we’re finding out over this last year through the pandemic that simply isn’t happening. And when that doesn't happen, we see these surge in cases approach and go higher. We’ve seen other countries around the world as well, the ones that seem to be handling it are the ones that either can mandate those shutdowns or can go ahead and people there are doing what they need to do to keep them under control. It doesn’t always happen, though.
