Twitter BANS Largest Meme Account, Owner Blames ‘False Reporting’

Twitter has banned its largest meme account, which had 2.5 million followers, after what its owner described as a “false reporting” campaign.

“It’s just a meme account I uploaded 2-4 funny videos everyday that my followers sent me,” the owner of @FreeMemesKids said. “I started it in March 2016 grew to 10k by June 2016 and then it took off when people like Post Malone retweeted me.”

The account hit one million followers about a year ago, and skyrocketed from there. Each Tweet was receiving 100-200 thousand likes.

“In the last few months it was growing 200k followers a month,” the account owner told me.

Then, the account was banned for “evading permanent suspension.”

This reporter had his Twitter account suspended for the same reason. When my account was restored,  the owner of the meme account reached out to tell his story.

“Twitter has automated systems that find and remove multiple automated spam accounts in bulk. Unfortunately, it looks like your account got caught up in one of these spam groups by mistake,” Twitter told me in an email alerting me that my account would be restored.

The @FreeMemesKids owner believes he was caught in the middle of the same mistake.

“There is only one other account my size on twitter that posts funny type stuff,” the account’s owner told me.
